This major storm system is forecast to push into southern Canada
later today while another wave of low pressure move
north-northeast across the South. High winds and heavy snow will
combine to create blizzard conditions in Minnesota today, which
could cause power outages and create hazardous travel conditions.
Snow will taper off tonight. In the South, the wave of low
pressure will continue widespread severe thunderstorms and heavy
rain today. Potential severe thunderstorm hazards may include
numerous significant tornadoes, damaging winds, and hail.
Additionally, heavy rain is expected to cause numerous instances
of flash flooding across the Tennessee Valley and Mid-South. The
severe weather and flash flood threats will decrease late tonight
into Sunday as the frontal system pushes towards the East Coast,
but scattered severe thunderstorms and isolated instances of flash
flooding will still be possible.
The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 1000 PM CDT. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
