At 800 AM MDT...The storm system was strengthening as it emerged
into the Central High Plains. The low pressure center was located
over eastern Colorado with a minimum central pressure of 980 mb
(28.9 in Hg). The system was beginning to occlude and the trailing
cold front extended south and west across the Central and Southern
Plains into northern Mexico. Additionally, a sharp dry line was
analyzed east of the cold front across Central Texas. Observations
and National Weather Service Doppler Radar indicated moderate to
heavy snow was falling over the Rockies while mixed precipitation
and rain were expanding into the Plains. Strong, gusty winds were
being observed across the Central and Southern Plains in the
vicinity of the deep low and associated cold front.

This strong storm system is forecast to track north-northeast
across the Plains into the Upper Midwest through Saturday.
Widespread high winds are expected across much of the Central
U.S., and high winds and heavy snow could create blizzard
conditions in portions of the Dakotas and Minnesota. Winds and
wintry precipitation could cause power outages and create
hazardous travel conditions. Heavy snow in the Rockies will
gradually decrease today, but high winds and blowing snow could
still create hazardous conditions through this evening.
Additionally, a regional outbreak of severe thunderstorms is
likely today across the Mid-Mississippi Valley to the
Lower-Mississippi Valley, including portions of the Lower Ohio
Valley and Mid South, and the severe weather threat will shift
east on Saturday, stretching from the Gulf Coast states to the
Ohio Valley.
The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 900 PM MDT. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
