As the low pressure system continues to move away from the
Northeast, scattered snow showers across the Great Lakes and
Northeast should continue to taper off through the day outside of
some lake-effect snows. Some light additional accumulations will
be possible, especially for areas of Upstate New York and New
England along the Canadian Border. The heaviest accumulations are
expected for the favorable downwind locations along the Great
Lakes as cold westerly to northwesterly flow remains in place
surrounding the broad low pressure circulation. This includes
portions of the Upper Peninsula of Lake Michigan, where additional
totals upwards of 18" are possible, and downwind of Lake Ontario
in Upstate New York, with totals of 2-3 feet expected. Winds will
also continue to die down across the Northeast as the low pressure
system moves away, but sustained winds of 20-30 mph, with gusts
upwards of 60 mph, will still be possible through this evening,
especially for interior portions of the Northeast/New England.
This may continue to lead to some areas of blowing snow even where
snow has come to an end. Bitterly cold wind chills are expected
across the Interior Northeast and may reach as low as 20-30
degrees below zero Tuesday morning.
This will be the last Storm Summary issued by the Weather
Prediction Center for this event. Please refer to your local
National Weather service office for additional information.
