across the Great Lakes and Appalachians. An Arctic cold front was
pushing into the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. National Weather

Strong and gusty winds are forecast across much of the Great
Lakes, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast through the afternoon and
evening hours in the wake of the cold front. Wind gusts up to 80
mph are likely, which should result in power outages, downed
trees, and hazardous travel. Scattered snow showers and squalls
will accompany the front as it passes through the region this
morning. Some of the stronger snow showers and squalls will be
capable of producing intense bursts of heavy snow and gusty winds.
These rapidly changing conditions can result in whiteouts, icy
roads, and dangerous travel conditions. Cold air blowing across
the still relatively warm Great Lakes will also lead to heavy lake
effect snow, up to 1-2 feet, downwind of the Great Lakes, along
the Central Appalachians, and across the higher terrain of
interior New England. In the lake effect snow belts and the
Central Appalachians, the heavy snow will combine with strong
winds to produce near-blizzard conditions.

The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 1000 PM EST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
