At 900 PM EST...An area of surface low pressure (986 mb, or 29.1
inches of mercury) was located east of Newfoundland and Labrador,
with a high pressure ridge positioned southwest over the northern
Great Plains. This pattern continues to support strong
northwesterly to westerly winds across the Great Lakes Region,
drawing arctic air over the warmer lake waters, leading to intense
bands of lake effect snow. National Weather Service Doppler Radar
shows these lake effect bands occurring south and east of the
Great Lakes.

Intense lake-effect snow bands are forecast for favorable downwind
locations of lakes Superior, Michigan, Erie, and Ontario as cold,
steady winds persist over the warmer lake waters through at least
Monday. Impacted areas include the UP of Michigan, northern Lower
Michigan, northeastern Ohio, northwestern Pennsylvania, and
portions of western/Upstate New York, with the more intense bands
expected to linger longest across northeastern Ohio, northwestern
Pennsylvania, and western New York. These intense bands will
result in deep and drifting snow, likely measured in several feet
in the hardest-hit areas. Travel will remain very difficult to
impossible in these areas.
The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 1000 AM EST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
