At 1000 AM EDT...Tropical Storm Helene was rapidly moving north
into the Southern Appalachians crossing western North Carolina,
starting to connect into the frontal system and transitioning
toward an extra-tropical system over the next day or so. National
Weather Service Doppler RADAR mosaic shows core of moderate to
heavy rainfall intersecting the southern and south central
Appalachian Range with a strong band of tropical showers and
thunderstorms extending from the shield in north-central North
Carolina southward into eastern South Carolina before breaking
into more scattered/isolated thunderstorms across the Georgia
Bight before crossing southern Peninsular Florida. A broadening
shield of moderate stratiform rain can be expanding across much of
the Ohio, Tennessee Valley and crossing the central Mississippi
Valley from southern Illinois to Northern Mississippi/northeast
Arkansas.
