Additional heavy rainfall and flash flooding is expected tonight
across parts of the Upper Midwest as low pressure along the draped
stationary front makes its way east. Widespread showers and
thunderstorms producing torrential rainfall rates up to 2-3 inches
per hour over saturated soils from recent rainfall will exacerbate
flooding concerns from southeast South Dakota to central
Wisconsin. The heavy rain threat is forecast to end by Saturday
morning across Nebraska and South Dakota as a passing cold front
ushers in a drier and more stable air mass. However, heavy showers
and strong thunderstorms will remain in the forecast during the
day Saturday across Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin as rich low
level moisture continues to be directed at the frontal boundary
positioned over parts of the Midwest. The heavy rainfall threat
will finally conclude once the same cold front that tracked across
Nebraska and South Dakota makes its way through the Midwest
Saturday evening.
The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 1000 AM CDT. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
